Moving supplies you'll need - a check list

Moving is very stressful with all the packing and the potential damage to your possessions, no wonder most people hate it.

Having the right moving supplies however can help to take much of the stress out of the moving process by making the entire process simpler.

One of the best ways to help your prized possessions get to their new home safely is to use moving boxes. There are many different kinds of moving boxes, and you want to be sure you get the right boxes for the type of material you are packing. The strength of a moving box is an important element in how well it will protect your possessions. You will want to use the strongest moving boxes you can find, as weaker boxes can break down during your move and damage your items. You can find strong boxes in a variety of sizes. The information about the strength of each box can usually be found among the printed information on the bottom of the box. The strongest moving boxes will be constructed using corrugated cardboard. The size and type of the items you need to pack should determine the size of your moving boxes. It is a good idea, for example, to place clothes and other light items in large boxes, and heavy items such as books in smaller boxes.

Besides moving boxes you will need to purchase plastic bubble wrap, packing tape, and other packing supplies. Some of the additional supplies you may need include paper towels or packing paper to protect delicate items, permanent markers to label your boxes, PVC tape, and stickers to identify various boxes. You want to have all the necessary supplies on hand before you begin your packing. Be sure you take into consideration the special needs of any large or awkward items you own when you purchase your supplies. Your move will be much less stressful if all your items are packed the day before your move. You don’t want to be still placing things in boxes as the moving truck drives up.

A good packing strategy is to do one room at a time. This will make unpacking much easier when you arrive at your new location. Remember to place heavy items in small boxes to make them easier to transport. To protect your clothing you may want to purchase moving boxes specifically designed to transport clothing. Using wardrobe boxes will let you keep you clothes in excellent condition all the way through the moving process. Be sure to label any boxes that contain fragile items. This is especially important if you have friends or other helpers on the day of your move.
