The day before your move - what to do

The day of your move is almost here. This night will be the last night that your family will spend it this home.

While you may be excited for this new adventure to begin, chances are you are a little nervous as well. Hopefully careful planning up to this point has made you jut about ready for the big day.

Finish Packing
You can’t wait any longer. You will want to have your home completely packed by the end of today. Look around your home and determine if you will be able to complete all the necessary packing, if not call in help from friends, family, neighbors, or the packing service offered by your moving company. Take the time to add each new box to your packing inventory and adequately label each box.

Disassemble Your Furniture
You will want to disassemble and pack up all your furniture, unless this service is included in your moving company contract. Don’t forget to keep any small pieces or screws, as well as the assembly instructions in an easy to find location. Again, if this task is just too much for you on this last day, contact your moving company as ask to add this service to your contract.

Disconnect Your Appliances
Unplug all of the appliances in the home. Appliances that hold water (including the washer, dishwasher, fridge, and freezer) will need to be drained.

Prepare Your Oven
Your oven should be clean and empty when the movers arrive. Any racks or trays that are left in the oven should be reinforced so that they will not break or move during transport.

Prepare Your Refrigerator and Freezer
This is the last opportunity to completely empty, clean, and defrost your refrigerator and freezer. Be sure that there is nothing left in either appliance and remove any lingering odors with baking soda. A box of baking soda can be left in your refrigerator during the move to keep odors away.

Finalize Arrangements
Make sure not to leave this task to the end of the day before your move. Be sure to pack a suitcase with enough clothes to cover you until the moving van arrives and is unloaded. You should also prepare a box with beverages and snacks. Prepare another box with any bathroom items that you need to keep handy until the last minute of your move. Ensure that all your cell phones are charged and ready to go. Your best bet will be to complete all these tasks early enough so that your family has time to enjoy their last night in this home and get a great nights sleep before the big move.
