Choosing size moving truck for your move

Moving is a hassle that most people would avoid if they could. While it can be exciting to relocate, all the work and small details required to make it happen can be very stressful.

While many people choose to hire a moving company, this is simply not within the budget of some movers. Leasing a truck might be a great option for those who are looking to save some money. Leasing one large truck is often much simpler that trying to recruit everyone you have every known that drives a pickup truck.

You need to figure out what type of truck you need before you contact truck leasing companies. You won’t need a huge truck to move the items from your small studio apartment. A five bedroom house, however, is a completely different story.

If you have never leased a truck before, some of the items on the truck leasing agreement may be a little confusing. They usually include:

1.The exact time period of the rental. Read your contract carefully to be sure that you have the truck for the specific times that you need it. You don’t want to assume that the information they have given you is correct. Imagine how frustrated you would be if you have all your friends there to help you move and are unable to get a truck.
2.Specific details as to the price. Find out whether mileage is included in the base fee that you were quoted. If not, what is the additional charge per mile?
3.Truck return policy. Find out the exact location where the truck should be returned. If you are returning it to the same location, this step will be easy. If you have a one way truck rental, ask for a map to the location at your destination.
4.Gas. Are you required to return the truck with a full tank of gas? If so, make sure you do this as the fee for failing to fill up can be very high.
5.Does the truck leasing company offer you additional insurance? Check with your auto insurance company and see if their policy covers damage to the rental truck. If it does not, you will probably want to purchase the insurance that the truck leasing company offers.

You are ready to lease your truck once you have answered all of these questions. Make sure you get a truck that you know you can drive and that can accommodate all your stuff. Always double check that the rental dates are correct on your contract and be sure to confirm the date with the company as it draws near.

Prior to picking up your truck you want to be sure to have done the following:

1.Completed all packing tasks.
2.Have all your breakable items secured.
3.Have all your boxes labeled so that items will not be loaded into the truck in a way that damages them.
4.If you have valuables or other items that you do not want placed on the truck, be sure to place them in a location where people will not mistakenly load them. Items you may want to keep off the truck include rare antiques, expensive electronics, and irreplaceable legal papers.

Renting a moving truck can really help to make your move easier. Proper packing and planning is also key to reducing the stress of that important moving day.
